Dr. Mario Elia, is a fire scientist of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (DISAAT) at the University of Bari, Italy. His research interests lie in the field of Fire Ecology and Forest Fire Management focusing mainly in the areas of fire ecological modeling, GIS, remote sensing and ecosystem conservation at multiple scales. His specific researches are looking at the Coupled Natural and Human Systems (CNHS) approach which aims to investigate the interaction among them such as fire in wildland-urban interface areas (WUI). He has collected experience in modelling data through research projects and scientific collaborations worldwide.
Dr. Elia experienced managing projects, leading research studies, writing projects and papers, developing board studies and collaborating to national and international congresses and seminars. He has worked as visiting scholar at Toledo University (Oh, USA), Environmental Sciences Department, in 2013, and as visiting researcher at Oregon State University (Or, USA) in 2014.
