He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, India. His research focuses on the remediation and management of heavy metal-polluted sites as well as hazardous-waste dumpsites (fly ash, red mud, mine spoil and others) for regaining ecosystem services and supporting a bio-based economy through the low-input green technologies (phytoremediation/ phytorestoration). Dr. Pandey is well recognized internationally in the field of phytomanagement of fly ash. He worked as a CSIR-Pool Scientist in the Department of Environmental Science at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India. Dr. Pandey also worked as a Consultant at Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh (CSTUP) and a DST-Young Scientist in the Plant Ecology and Environmental Science Division at CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, India. Dr. Pandey is a recipient of a number of awards / honours / fellowships. He serves as a subject expert and the panel member for the evaluation of research and professional activities for fostering environmental sustainability. Dr. Pandey is listed in world ranking of top 2% Indian Scientist announced by Stanford University, United States.
