Imaging spectrometers measure a full spectrum for each pixel. Light from each pixel area enters the objective and is directed through the entrance slit and onto a collimator before it intersects the dispersing element, such as a prism (as for PRISMA) or a diffraction grating, which disperses the light into different wavelength intervals onto the spectral detector array (as for EnMAP), which dispurses light onto the spectral detector array (one detector per spectral band). Prior to the dispersing element, both PRISMA and EnMAP split the light into two pathways, with different spectral detectors for the VNIR spectrum and the other for the SWIR spectrum.
