Hans de Boeck currently works as a senior scientist at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. His research field is global change ecology, with a focus on the effects of climate change and climate extremes on the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems (production, fluxes, mortality, etc.), and modulation of impacts by ecosystem characteristics (biodiversity, composition, etc.), especially in grassland ecosystems. He has been leading several initiatives aimed at developing improvements – both conceptual and technological - for global change experiments. His main current responsibilities involve setting up and managing two new state-of-the-art experimental platforms in which several global change factors can be manipulated. He is also active in promoting cooperation among global change experimentalists, for example through the European AnaEE research infrastructure initiative (www.anaee.com).
