João C. Azevedo is a Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and a researcher at the Mountain Research Centre in Portugal. He is Chair of the IUFRO Landscape Ecology unit, member of the Independent Observatory for Forest Fires (Portuguese Parliament) and chair of the Audit Committee of the Portuguese Forest Science Society. He is former chair of the Portuguese Landscape Ecology Association (IALE-Portugal) and former member of the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee (UN), Euromontana Board of Directors, and directive bodies of the Iberian and Portuguese Mountain Research Network.
His research interests include forest landscape ecology, sustainability in forested landscapes, ecosystem services in changing landscapes, sustainable forest bioenergy production systems and mountain sustainability.
João holds a BS degree in Forest Engineering from UTAD, Portugal, and MSc and PhD degrees in Forestry from Texas A&M University, USA.
