Xueyan Liu is a professor of isotope biogeochemistry at the School of Earth System Science, Tianjin University. He received a Ph. D. from Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2008). His research focuses on investigating the sources and cycling mechanisms of reactive nitrogen in terrestrial ecosystems under global changes and on assessing effects of nitrogen cycles on related ecosystem processes and functions. He established several new experimental and modeling methods for quantitatively trace source contributions and processes fluxes of nitrogen emissions, photochemical and microbial transformations. Meanwhile, he analyzed landscape- or globe-scale nitrogen and oxygen observations to examine the general environmental controls of nitrogen cycle processes in atmosphere-land-marine systems.
